ARE YOU A GOOD CANDIDATE?
The Visian ICL is a state-of-the-art solution that’s ideal for anyone with the need or desire for quality vision correction. Produced by STAAR® Surgical Company, the Visian ICL has numerous advantages including its correction of the widest range of myopia, or “nearsightedness.”
The Visian ICL Candidate
Good candidates for the Visian ICL include patients who:
- Are between the ages of 21 and 45.
- Are nearsighted with or without astigmatism* or farsighted*, including those with mild, moderate, and severe myopia (as low as -3D to as high as -20D prescription) with minor or no occurrence of astigmatism. The Visian Toric ICL™, capable of correcting myopia with astigmatism, is currently under review with the U.S. FDA. The Visian TICL™ is currently available only outside of the United States.
- Have sufficient anterior chamber depth and acceptable endothelial cell density (this will be determined by an ophthalmologist after a comprehensive eye exam).
- Have not had a change in their eyeglass prescription of more than 0.5D in a year.
- Are not currently pregnant.
- Have no other contraindications including no known allergies to medications used during refractive surgery.
- Have dry eyes, severe myopia, or a thin cornea (non-LASIK candidate).
The Visian Toric* ICL Candidate (Currently available only outside the of the United States)
Good candidates for the Visian Toric* ICL are those who have met all of the qualifications for the Visian ICL, and who have astigmatism of up to 4.0 diopters.

Removable – The Visian ICL is inserted into the eye by an ophthalmologist through a small, micro opening. The lens unfolds in the eye and is positioned between the iris and the natural lens where it stays indefinitely. If your vision changes dramatically, however, the Visian ICL can be removed from the eye by a simple surgical procedure without permanent damage. LASIK, on the other hand, involves the removal of corneal tissue, and is not reversible.
Protection against harmful UV exposure - As an added feature, the Visian ICL advanced lens material contains a UV blocker that actually prevents harmful UVA and UVB rays from entering the eye, possibly preventing the development of UV related eye disorders. Long-term exposure to UV radiation can damage the eyes; longer term or more intense exposure increase the chance of eye disorders including the development of cataracts and some retinal problems.
Invisible – The placement of the Visian ICL into the posterior chamber of the eye makes the lens invisible to both the patient and any observer.
